At Bubby's Little House

I always like to start by making note of interesting things that happened right before we left. Yesterday what happened is that I noticed that the floor around the toilet in my bathroom was covered with water. This led to Dave replacing the seal between the tank and the toilet and hey, as long as we have the water shut off we might as well replace the faucet in there too. So nowTim knows how to install a new faucet and I have a cool one like Dave’s. I spent some of the time while they were purchasing and repairing plumbing at the urgent care, having an ear infection. Got some nice azithromycin to take care of it.

I also have a cold, so I didn’t go to Nia today – I finished my 5th 30/30 card (30 workouts in 30 days) on Thursday so I could take a break. I woke up very early (7) and putzed around until Dave got up at 9. There was laundry and packing and putting the bathroom back together and getting Phil’s for lunch, and by 2:00 we were packed and ready to go. So we took naps. Tim drove Dave out in the Volvo, and I drove by myself in the van. Traffic was very light in our direction; quite heavy in the other.

There has been a big change here – Debbie of Arch Cape Property Services is no longer doing the management, instead, we’ve been dealing directly with Beth Church, the owner. So we no longer have to go get the key and chat. I got to the house first and was a little baffled by the door lock – Dave said it was electronic and you just punch in a code, but there was just a big blank screen. I poked it but nothing happened. I poked it a couple more times, and eventually it made a little sound and showed a keypad. I punched in the code and was in. It’s very cool – you just put your hand on it to lock it.

The next big change Beth had told me about, but I’d completely forgotten. Of course after the long drive I needed to pee, so I went to the bathroom, which has the light switch on the outside. But instead of the switch there was a panel covering where the switch had been. “Oh,” I thought to myself, “they’ve moved the switch inside”. So I stuck my hand inside and turned the light on. It was way brighter than before and I was staring into the tub! Then I remembered – they made the bathroom into two bathrooms, with the master bedroom having its own tiny bathroom complete with shower. Very cool, although there really wasn’t enough water pressure for one shower before, so I think it’s still a one person at a time bathing operation. They moved the washer/dryer a little to make room for the bathroom, but not much. We think this change is a Good Thing.

They’ve also done some major decluttering, which is nice. The only downside is that ACPS used to leave a nice bag of mixed Bruce’s taffy, but we were able to take care of that. We got unpacked quickly (and as Dave pointed out, once again we didn’t need to use our polite voices for packing, loading, unloading, or unpacking), connected to the wifi, and headed to Irish Table for dinner. Last year we’d decided that since we usually have an early dinner on Sunday night it would make sense to do Irish Table instead of Mo’s, since we’ve outgrown the need to go somewhere where there are crying babies and fried foods. I.T. was a perfect choice. We got there about 5:20 and were the fourth group in; service was quick and food was very good. Dave and I split a mushroom soup while Tim had the beet salad, we all had entrees, and Tim and Dave had desserts. Dave and I also had Hot Biddys, and it was just the right amount of food, except that I forgot that the ice cream comes with 3 super delicious cookies so I probably should have ordered it. The only bad part was the people at the large round table behind Dave, who broke one of my cardinal rules of dining: if you'd discuss it with your doctor, don't discuss it in a restaurant.

After dinner we drove through town to see what’s new and to stop at Mariner Market for milk and Bruce’s for assorted taffy. The big news in town is that they are getting a new store for dogs!!! Because two isn’t enough!!! Ok, that’s not the big news at all. The big news is that they have rebuilt the Bistro, which burned down last summer. It was one of our favorite restaurants and we’re very excited that they are back in business.

Then it was back home where it looked like there was going to be a sunset but then there wasn’t. It’s surprisingly warm here, and also not raining, which was nice. The weather this week isn’t supposed to be great, but we brought the Brios and we’re well stocked with games and e-books. We figured out our dinner choices and made reservations where we could. Castaways is Wednesday night - if you want to come make us a party of 6 or more so we can make a reservation, let me know. We finished out the evening with a nice fire and a game of farkle in which Tim had ridiculously good luck and I got ripped off.

  1. Oh I am so glad to see those decorations on the deck - that's prolly the only thing I'd remember. And TWO bathrooms, unimaginable! Of course I had loved the big room sink when Josh was a baby - made it so convenient. And that the sink was for a book-binding operation? Have I got that right? I wonder who the binder was, now that I operate a little in that world. I dealt with Beth Church at the very beginning, and that was fine. I hope your code and your ear are better v. quickly, and I promise not to discuss them when we go out to dinner.
